Google's $39.99 Pixel Tag Makes You Wait Until Nov. 11

Google's new Pixel Tag was the one genuine surprise at Made by Google 2026, and it's also the only product from the event you can't order right now. The company pulled the wraps off four phones, a new watch and its first in-house tracker on August 12. Everything else reaches Canadian shelves August 20. The tracker doesn't arrive until November 11.

Pricing in Canada lands at $39.99 for a single unit or $129.99 for a four-pack, which works out to $32.50 each — cheap enough that most people will clip one to a keyring, drop one in a suitcase, slide one into a wallet and stop worrying about it. The November date puts it squarely in holiday shopping season rather than phone-launch season.

The rest of the lineup is a familiar story: better hardware, higher sticker. The Pixel 11 starts at $1,249 in Canada, the Pixel 11 Pro at $1,499, the Pro XL at $1,799 and the Pro Fold at $2,499, all with 256GB as the base storage. Pre-orders opened the day of the keynote, and launch-window promotions run through August 27.

What Google Put on Stage This Year

Four phones, one watch, one tracker and a long run of Gemini features. Every Pixel 11 model runs the Tensor G6, which Google says handles on-device AI roughly 3.5 times faster than the previous chip while drawing less power. The Pro and Pro XL carry 6.3-inch and 6.8-inch displays rated at 3,600 nits peak brightness, alongside a 48MP telephoto with 120x zoom.

The Pro Fold is the more interesting piece of engineering. Google got it down to 239 grams, about 10 percent lighter than last year's model, kept IP68 water and dust resistance, and fitted a 4,750 mAh battery. Camera gains lean on software: Magic Capture sorts through roughly 500 frames to pick your shot, and Night Sight now resolves up to 4.5 times faster.

Why the Pixel Tag Matters More Than the Phones

Android owners have spent years watching iPhone users toss AirTags into checked luggage. Google's Find Hub network already existed, but it depended on third-party hardware from Chipolo, Pebblebee and Tile. The Pixel Tag is the first one Google has built itself, and the spec sheet suggests the delay bought something real.

How It Actually Finds Your Stuff

Two radios do the work. Ultra-wideband gives you distance and direction on screen — the arrow-and-metres experience — provided your phone has a UWB chip. Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding reports distance only, but works on any phone or tablet supporting that standard. Once an item is out of range, it falls back on Find Hub, which Google says draws on more than a billion Android devices worldwide.

Battery, Build and the Left-Behind Alert

Stainless steel shell, IP67 rating, a built-in speaker and a user-replaceable CR2032 coin cell rated for about a year. No sealed battery, no service appointment when it dies. Left Behind alerts buzz your phone when you walk away from a tagged bag, which is the single feature that justifies owning a tracker in an airport at all.

The Watch Jumped a Number and a Price

Anyone expecting a Pixel Watch 4 got a Pixel Watch 5 instead. The 41mm starts at $549.99 in Canada, the 45mm at $589.99, both Wi-Fi only; cellular versions run about US$100 more. Inside sits a Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 chip with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, double last year's capacity. Health tracking adds monthly blood pressure trend summaries and insulin resistance signals.

Those two health features deserve a closer look before you commit. Google didn't break out Canadian availability or timing for them, and health features tied to regulatory clearance don't always land in both countries at once. What This Costs You Compared With Last Year

In US dollars the Pixel 11 rose $100 over the Pixel 10 to land at $899, while the watch went up $50 on the smaller size and $30 on the larger. Canadian prices carry the usual conversion gap on top of that. One softener worth counting: Google is bundling six months of its AI Pro plan with Pro models sold in Canada.
