Samsung Gave the Galaxy S26 FE a Date, but Not a Name

Samsung has locked in August 27 for a launch event that nearly everyone expects to be the Galaxy S26 FE — nearly everyone except Samsung, which still won't say the name out loud. The invitation the company published this week promises "the newest addition to the Galaxy S26 family" and stops there. No model number, no product shot, not even a teasing silhouette.

The show starts at 8 a.m. ET on Thursday, August 27, which is 5 a.m. for anyone on the West Coast. It's online only — a livestream on Samsung's own site and its YouTube channel, with no auditorium, no audience, no executives walking a stage. Samsung isn't even using the Unpacked branding it normally reserves for phone reveals. The official title is plain: Galaxy Event August 2026.

That's more than branding trivia. FE stands for Fan Edition, Samsung's cheaper door into its flagship line, and it's the model most likely to headline a US carrier promotion this fall. Last year's Galaxy S25 FE started at $649 in the States. European price leaks for the follow-up point in the wrong direction for buyers, which makes the price tag the number to watch on the 27th.

What the Galaxy S26 FE Is Expected to Bring

Samsung hasn't confirmed a single specification, but the leak trail is unusually complete. German outlet WinFuture published what it says is the full spec sheet earlier this month, and 9to5Google and GSMArena both worked through the details. Here's where the phone is expected to land.

A 2025 chip and the same battery as before

The leaks point to an Exynos 2500 processor, 8GB of RAM, and storage tiers at 128GB, 256GB and 512GB. Battery capacity reportedly stays at 4,900mAh with 45W wired charging — identical on paper to the S25 FE. If that holds, most of this year's difference is on the outside, in a redesign that lines up with the rest of the S26 range.

The camera change that's worth something

The rear setup is said to be a 50MP main sensor with optical stabilization, a 12MP ultrawide, and an 8MP telephoto. The telephoto is the real upgrade: leaks say it moves from 2x to 3x optical zoom. That's a modest jump on a spec sheet and a noticeable one in practice, since 3x is the difference between a cropped-looking portrait and a usable one across a room.

How long the software support runs

The phone is expected to ship with One UI 9 on top of Android 17, and to carry Samsung's seven-year update commitment. Spread across seven years, a $649-class phone works out to well under $10 a month before trade-ins — the strongest argument the Fan Edition has ever had against buying a cheap phone twice.

Why the Launch Left the Berlin Stage

Last year Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S25 FE on September 4 in Berlin, timed to the IFA trade show. This year's date is eight days earlier and there's no show floor at all. Pulling the reveal forward puts it a week ahead of the noise that swallows early September in the US, when Apple's fall iPhone announcement dominates every tech feed and most carrier advertising. The main Galaxy S26 line, by contrast, got the full treatment: a February 25 Unpacked in San Francisco, alongside the Galaxy Buds4.

What It Could Cost in the US

French retail listings spotted by Dealabs put the base model at €799, roughly a €50 increase over the equivalent S25 FE there. Don't convert that to dollars — European prices include VAT and Samsung sets US pricing separately. What the leak does signal is direction. A $50 US increase would push the entry model to about $699, which puts a Fan Edition within $100 of a discounted standard flagship during holiday sales, and that's a harder sell.

What Else Might Show Up

Because the invite names nothing, the door is open. 9to5Google notes that a Galaxy Tab S12 and new Galaxy Buds could appear too, though neither is confirmed and Samsung has said nothing about either. A short, phone-only stream is the likelier outcome given the format.

If you're shopping, the practical move is to wait out the week rather than grab a discounted S25 FE right now. Two things get answered on August 27: the US starting price, and whether trade-in credits and preorder storage bumps come with it.
