Become an author

Every hudr.net account starts as a reader. A reader can do almost everything on the site, but their posts do not travel: they sit on their own profile. Author status is the switch that lets what you publish reach other people's feeds. This page explains what it changes, how to ask for it, and what happens after.

The short version

It is free and there is nothing to fill in. One button, in Settings → Authorship.
A person reads your profile and decides. There is no follower minimum, no minimum account age and no ID check — none of those exist in the software.
We do not send you the decision. Come back to that same settings page to see where you stand.
What it changes is distribution — whether your posts can reach other people's feeds, Explore and Reels. Nothing on your profile changes and no badge appears.
It is not the verification badge, and it is not the earning programme. Both of those are separate, with their own rules.

What author status is

There are two kinds of account on hudr.net: reader and author. Every new account is created as a reader. The only way to become an author is for someone on our team to change your account type by hand, after you ask.

It costs nothing. It is not a badge, it is not a subscription, and it is not the verification badge — that is a separate thing with separate rules. Author status is not shown anywhere on your profile. Other members cannot tell whether you are one; they only notice the effect, which is whether your posts turn up in front of them.

What changes, exactly

Author status is read by four parts of the product: the home feed, Explore, the Reels feed and the people-suggestion list. Nothing else on hudr.net looks at it. Here is the whole of the difference.

Readers and authors both get:

Your own profile page. Everything you publish lives there either way.
A permanent link to each post, and the embed of it, which you can share anywhere.
Your own home feed. You see the people you follow as normal.

Only authors get:

Other members' home feeds — followers, connections and discovery.
Explore, both the posts tab and the people tab.
The Reels feed, for video, once that video is approved.
Suggested people, the list that offers your account to others to follow.

Being a reader does not hide you. Your profile is still public at hudr.net/@yourusername, your posts are still public and still have permanent links you can share anywhere, people can still find you by opening your profile or a link to it, and the small preview feed we show logged-out visitors is not filtered by account type. What a reader does not get is distribution — the automatic surfaces that put a post in front of somebody who did not go looking for it.

Everything else works the same either way: messages and message requests, connections and followers, stories, communities, jobs, the marketplace, profile reviews and the reviews widget, bookmarks, your wallet, boosting a post and running ads. None of those check whether you are an author.

Who can apply

Anyone with an active hudr.net account. There is no follower minimum, no minimum account age, no post quota, and we do not ask for a government document — none of that exists in the software, so nobody can fail a check we do not run.

What there is instead is a person reading your profile. The decision is entirely human, so the honest answer to "will I be approved" is: it depends on what a reviewer sees when they open your account.

How to apply

Open Settings → Authorship. The direct address is hudr.net/settings/authorship — copy it and type it in if you cannot find the link in the settings menu. The page works; the redesigned settings screen just does not link to it yet.
Press Switch to author account. That records your request. There is nothing to fill in, nothing to upload and no fee.
Someone on our team reviews it and either changes your account type to author or declines it.

We do not notify you of the decision. No email, no in-app notification — the product simply does not send one, and we would rather say so than let you wait for a message that is never coming. Come back to hudr.net/settings/authorship to see where you stand. It shows one of three things: your request is pending, your request was declined, or you have an author account.

One account can have one open request. Pressing the button again does not create a second one, and it does not move you up the queue.

What we look at

There is no checklist in the software, so this is not a list of rules you can be failed against — it is what actually makes a request easy to say yes to:

A profile that looks like a person or a brand. A photo, a real or brand-representative name, a headline and a short bio saying what you publish.
Something already published. A few posts that show the kind of thing you would be putting into other people's feeds. An empty account gives a reviewer nothing to go on.
An account in good standing. No live suspension, and no recent history of content being removed by moderation.

Accounts that exist to spam, to impersonate someone, or to republish other people's work without credit do not get author status, and asking repeatedly does not change that.

If your request is declined

Your account stays a reader and everything else about it is untouched. Nothing is deleted, nothing is restricted, and you keep posting to your profile exactly as before.

You cannot send a second request from settings. A declined request stays on your account and the button on that page stays switched off — that is how the software behaves today, not a punishment. If you want another look after you have built the profile up, ask us on the contact page and a person will re-open it. We do not publish a waiting period; just make sure something has actually changed since last time.

What happens to the posts you already published

They become eligible straight away. The feed checks what your account is now, not what it was when you pressed publish, so approval does not draw a line under your old work — everything on your profile becomes distributable at once.

Two limits are worth knowing:

Discovery only looks back 14 days. People who already follow you or are connected to you can be shown any of your posts; for everyone else, the discovery part of the feed only considers posts from the last 14 days. That number is a setting we can change.
Old videos still need approval. A video you published as a reader has to clear moderation before it reaches the Reels feed, the same as a new one.

Publishing as an author

Posting itself does not change. What changes is what happens after you press publish.

Video posts always go through moderation. A new standalone video is queued for review. It appears on your profile and for your followers immediately, but it only enters the public Reels feed once a reviewer approves it.
Other posts go through moderation when post review is switched on — it is on at the moment. When it is on, a new post reaches your followers right away and the wider discovery feed only after approval.
Reels are distributed on watch time. A new reel is shown to a small test audience first; if people watch it through, it is shown more widely. If they scroll past it, it is not.
An upload marked "add to my media" behaves normally — it goes in your profile media grid and into feeds like any other post.

The feed ranks on recency, on whether the viewer follows or is connected to you, on engagement and on a few other signals, and it deliberately damps repeats so the same post is not shown to the same person over and over. There is no way to pay for a better ranking. If you want more reach for one specific post, that is what boosting is for, and boosted or sponsored placements are labelled where they appear.

The standards you are held to

Your reach is larger as an author, so the consequences of getting it wrong are larger too. Publish work that is yours or properly credited, do not mislead people about what you are selling, and keep it free of harassment, hate, impersonation and sexual content involving minors. The full list is in the Terms of Use and it applies to readers and authors alike.

Posts, stories, profiles, communities, group chats and reviews can all be reported by anyone who sees them, and reports go to a queue our team works through. There is no report button on an individual comment or on a single chat message — those are reported through the post they sit under or the account behind them. We can take a post out of the feeds, remove it, take author status away, or suspend the account, depending on what happened.

Author status is not the blue badge

These get confused constantly, so: the verification badge is separate, it is not granted by becoming an author, and becoming an author is not made easier by having one. A badge is either bought from your wallet balance or granted after our team reviews links to profiles you hold elsewhere, and it expires unless it is renewed. The one place the two meet is money: the earning programme below can require a verified account.

Earning from your content

Monetization is a separate programme with its own application, in Settings → Monetize. Author status does not enrol you in it and is not formally required by it — but in practice the two go together, because most of what earns is driven by views, and views come from distribution.

To be able to apply you need:

10,000 followers. The settings page shows your progress towards this, and can email you the day you cross it if you switch that reminder on.
A verified account. Verification is currently required before you can apply at all.
Approval by our team. Nothing switches itself on. Applying puts you in a review queue; a person approves or declines it.

Those first two numbers are settings we can change, so the figures on the Monetize page are always the ones that count. If an application is declined you can re-apply, but not immediately — there is a short cooldown, and the page tells you when you may try again.

The five ways to earn

Each one is switched on separately. A stream only pays when the programme is on, we have enabled that stream platform-wide, we have granted it to your account, and you have switched it on yourself. You cannot switch on a stream we have not granted you.

Ads on your content. A share of the revenue from ads shown alongside your posts and reels.
Brand sponsorships. We match you with brands; they pay you directly.
Paid community access. A joining fee for your community, of which hudr.net keeps 10%. Not chargeable yet — joining a community is free today, so this stream earns nothing until we ship the payment step.
Pay per 1,000 views. A rate for every 1,000 counted views — how a view is counted and priced is below.
Pay per 100 active followers. 1 USD per 100 active followers, each month. This is the only stream with an extra requirement: a verified account and a separate team sign-off.

An active follower is an accepted follower who has used hudr.net in the last 7 days. A dormant follower is not paid for.

How views are counted and priced

Views are not the counter on the post. Money is paid on a separate record of one view per signed-in member per post, so the same person reloading a post cannot earn you anything twice, and logged-out traffic is not paid for at all. Your own views of your own posts never count.

The rate is set per country, using the country on your account. Where we have not set a rate for a country it falls back to 0.25 USD per 1,000 views.
The range shown in settings is 0.25 USD to 3 USD per 1,000 views. That is indicative — what you actually earn is the rate for your country.
There is a ceiling of 5,000,000 paid views in a single accrual period. Anything above it is carried into the next period rather than lost.

How payouts work

Earnings accrue at the end of each month. Every amount is written to a ledger with the stream it came from, and added to your pending balance. You can see the breakdown, the daily trend and the totals on the Monetize page.
On the 1st of the month we pay out — provided your pending balance is at least 10 USD. Below that it stays pending and rolls into the next month.
The payout lands in your hudr.net wallet, as a transaction you can see in your wallet history. It is not sent to a bank at this point.
To take money out, request a cashout from your wallet. A cashout is reviewed by our team before it is paid, one request at a time, and a minimum amount and a withdrawal fee apply — both are shown on the form.

Your wallet balance can also be spent inside hudr.net, on boosting posts, ad campaigns and verification, without ever being withdrawn.

Losing it, and giving it up

We can set an account back to reader at any time — for spam, for repeated moderation removals, for impersonation, or if the account is suspended. Nothing you published is deleted when that happens; your posts simply stop being distributed and go back to living on your profile. You can ask us why on the contact page.

There is no button that turns author status off yourself. If you want to go back to being a reader, ask us and we will do it.

Deleting your account signs you out on every device and stops your profile, posts, comments and followers being visible to anyone on hudr.net. You cannot undo it yourself, and it is not a wipe of our database — what we keep afterwards is listed in the Privacy Policy.
